DSC_7139Striking report coming out of Berlin declares video games are contributing to climate change.

A German environmental monitoring organization “Weltorganisation für Eine Bessere Erde” recently published a damaging report stating among other things that video games contribute more to climate change than any other human activity.  The idea behind the claim is that more and more people are spending their free time in air-conditioned, and heated homes playing video games and as such the extra electricity demand and burning of fossil fuels continues to heat the earth.

“It’s an absolute fact,” explains Sonja Forelle a publicist for the organization, “years ago people stayed in doors and watched TV – sure.  But now you have people staying in doors more often to play video games than to watch TV, and now you have high energy consuming video consoles adding to the mix.  Large screen TV’s, while using less power than a conventional television creates a lot more heat, thus requiring more electricity for the air-conditioning.”

Other scientists have refuted the claim stating that their is little to no evidence to suggest that video games are a contributing factor, but none that we reached out would go on record.
