Although it was not formally announced at E3, Ubisoft has officially cancelled an Assassin’s Creed project slated for release in 2018.
Assassin’s Creed: Sons of the Confederate Army was intended to be another historical chapter in the Assassin’s Creed franchise set to take place with the United States Civil War as a backdrop. An initial plot device was to have the central character influence the result of the war by secretly killing key people on both sides of the Mason-Dixon line. But as of today our sources indicate the game has been cancelled indefinitely.
In recent days a heated debate has exploded in the United States where specific politicians and activists are looking to permanently ban or remove the Confederate flag from state capitals and other locations as some see it as a symbol of racism. Others have argued in favor of keeping the flag for reasons of historical relevancy and culture. Either way Ubisoft is probably smart to cancel the title before it was officially announced.
