Russian sanctions are preventing the export of precious metals used in manufacture of PS4 motherboards.
Sony is believed to be scrambling for a new component manufacturer after Russian sanctions impact the tech industry hard. Four Taiwanese companies have shut down operations after minerals and precious metals imported from Russia come to a stand still.
The Ukrainian-Russian crisis has brought on a new wave of sanctions from the United States and the European Union. Although Southeast Asian countries are neutral in the matter their American and European investors are hesitant to deal with Putin and his people.
“The ripple effect of this could make for a shortage in PS4 units this Christmas,” explains Alexander Fhan-Wan-Lo a purchasing agent for a major component manufacturer that supplies parts to Foxconn and other companies. “I expect the current supply may run out by mid-November.”
The Gaming Free Press reached out to Sony, but they have not confirmed or denied the report as of this writing.
