Gamers were horrified this past weekend at the PlayStation Experience event in Las Vegas after Sony Computer Entertainment America announced another re-release of the 1997 classic Final Fantasy VII.
Social media was set ablaze as insults about the reveal echoed the dis-enchantment felt on the exhibit floor. And Venetian hotel engineers were cleaning up the mens room on Monday after someone spray painted “GTFO Sony.”
Industry analysts were mostly united that the decision to release the game was foolish on Sony’s part while gaming sites cautiously praised the announcement.
Although Sony refused a request for comment an employee who asked for anonymity contacted the Gaming Free Press and told us that “no one would be fired.”
When pushed further the employee stated “Final Fantasy VII is the first in a long list of PS1 games that are slated for re-release. Expect an announcement for Metal Gear Solid shortly before E3.”
