An infant wrapped in a blanket was left in a running car at the Best Buy in Dallas, Texas with a note that read, “My mama’s going to be a qualifier! Call her if I need anything!” and included a cell phone number. The child appeared to be sleeping in a car seat and in no distress. Several concerned citizens attempted to contact the number on the note with no answer. Authorities were contacted and arrived on the scene.
“We had to shoot out the driver’s side window to get to the baby,” Deputy Officer Robert Nix told reporters. “It is extremely dangerous to leave a baby unattended in a running car.” The child was taken to the local hospital in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery from the ordeal.
The mother, Abigail Degnose, did make the qualifiers round. “I’ll do it again tomorrow, if I have to,” She told authorities. “It’s hard to play video games with an infant, y’all.” The infant was sleeping and she did not want to disturb her, according to the sheriff’s report. The report also noted she didn’t expect the qualifying rounds to take so long.
