Death of the inventor of the pixel ruled suicide.
The internet and gaming community specifically is mourning the passing of William Johnson Steinberg. Steinberg is often credited for the invention of the pixel – a small, usually square dot found in televisions, computer monitors, and other displays used to represent a single cell of color. Put multiple colored cells together and you get a picture. Rapidly change the colors of these cells in a specific pattern and you get a moving image.
Steinberg documented his discovery in 1922 and it was eventually used with the invention of the television. Although he never received monetary compensation for his discovery he found later financial success in the radio industry.
A Seattle County coroner released a statement stating Steinberg’s death was ruled a suicide. He was found face down in what a police report described as “a huge pile of cocaine.” He was 112.
