Government Cracks Down On Misappropriation Of Egyption Culture By Threatening Execution
Cairo – The Arab Republic of Egypt has warned gamers that the purchasing or importing of Ubisoft’s latest game Assassin’s Creed Origin could be subjected to imprisonment and possible death. The game which releases this Friday, takes place during the Ptolemaic period of Ancient Egypt and features authentic geography of Egypt including various real world tombs and holy sites.
Egypt has recently cracked down on homosexuality and and dating apps and some analysis believe this is being driven by Islamic groups who may consider the popular video game to be sinful.
“Gaming is a sickness and disgrace that would be better hidden from view and not promoted for dissemination until it is treated and its disgrace removed,” said Jafar Mohammed Ahmed, chief of the Media Regulation Consul, a government body.
