As reported last year the Electronic Entertainment Expo might be on the brink of bankruptcy, but now a recently launched Kickstarter may have confirmed the fact.
Typically E3 provides a badge and a lanyard to attendees regardless if they are an exhibitor, a representative from the press, or a guest. The lanyards are typically donated by one of the big three console manufactures: Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo; but the badges themselves are ordered by E3 and are shipped to Los Angeles a few days before the event.
This year however it seems that E3 has not generated enough revenue to print badges, or in an effort to save money or increase its bottom line has decided to launch a Kickstarter to fund the printing of the badges themselves.
They are currently seeking $30,000 with stretch goals of $50,000 and $100,000. Meeting the $30k goal will provide attendees with a paper badge and plastic holder with clip. The $50k goal will facilitate color printing of the badges, and the $100k stretch will provide a full color badge, with hologram holder and clip.
Donors who are not attending E3 will receive a faux badge as a reward for donating.
