Early Screeners Report The Pixels Movie Is Riddled With Subliminal Messaging
American moviegoers will get their first chance to enjoy Adam Sandler’s newest bomb “Pixels” this weekend but some Korean fans who were treated with a July 16th release are reporting that the movie is riddled with subliminal cuts.
Subliminal cuts is when a reel of film has pictures injected into them that flash on the screen for an instance. The belief is that the viewer’s subconscious would observe the photo and change their behavior. For example, a subliminal cut of a bucket of hot buttery popcorn or an ice cold Coca-Cola might encourage someone in the audience to go to the concession stand to purchase a popcorn or soda.
Dr. Peh Sang Pho, a psychology professor at Chosun University in South Korea, watched Pixels this past Monday and took note of what he believes to be several subliminal cuts of Confederate flags on fire, two men dressed as Ronald McDonald kissing, President Obama wearing a Burger King crown, and Caitlyn Jenner photobombing a veteran’s funeral.
“It was very strange,” explained Dr. Peh through a Korean translator, “but afterwards I felt no animosity towards North Korea.”
Subliminal cuts aren’t normally noticed unless you are purposely looking for them. Studies have not conclusively proven that subliminal cuts are effective but in some countries their use is illegal. It is unknown if American audience will be treated to the same version of the film shown to Korean audience, if the subliminal cuts would be changed to something more meaningful, or if the cuts would be removed in its entirely.
We’re encouraging all viewers of the Pixels movie if they observe any subliminal cuts and to report them in our comments section below.
