Retro gamers of Bakersfield California rushed to their local Taco Bell after rumors of Twin Galaxies’ founder Walter Day paying a visit.
Sometimes considered the ambassador of competitive gaming, Walter has a very illustrated career in and out of the gaming industry. Walter’s rise to infamy got boosted a few years ago with his appearance in the docudrama “The King of Kong”.
Tony Barella was working the register at the popular fast food restaurant when an elderly gentleman wearing a black and white striped referee shirt approached the counter and asked if he could have the key to the restroom. Another employee named Sarah watched the exchange and asked Tony “Do you know who that was?”
Tony didn’t, but a customer named Jordan who was finishing his meal witnessed the exchange and thought it might be Walter as well.
“I was certain it was Walter,” Jordan explained. “I actually followed him into the men’s room, but by the time I got there he was already locked behind the stall door. I decided to hang out for a moment killing time by washing my hands, but eventually the smell became overpowering and I decided to wait in the dining area instead.”
Jordan would wait another twenty minutes, passing the time by Tweeting the chance encounter to his friends. Within minutes the rumors of Walter Day visit were spreading like wildfire.
The Gaming Free Press reached out to Dr. Assan O’Dell, a clinical psychologist specializing in celebrity stalkers, to get his input on the matter:
“People are obsessed with celebrities. We want to believe we have chance encounters with them even when we don’t. This Jordan kid seems like a nice guy, but the idea of Walter Day visiting a local Taco Bell is dubious at best.”
Eventually the mystery man came out of the men’s room, but Jordan had become distracted and missed out on seeing the gentleman again.
“It was the best, and the worst day of my life”, Jordan further explained.
Whether or not the man was Walter Day may always remain a mystery, but an hour later more reports of Walter sightings in Bakersfield were reported at the grand opening of a Footlocker shoe store.
