The Rumors of GameStop Mini Stores in 7-Elevens just won’t go away
Its been six weeks since Dallas 7-Eleven employees claimed on Facebook that GameStop has entered a partnership with the convenience store franchise but neither company has made a formal announcement.
An official acknowledgement would end speculation that the partnership could be one of the most profitable in the video game retail industry. There are estimates that 85% of all gamers snack while gaming, and merged with the $30 billion+ a year industry makes perfect sense.
Sue Lupre, an convenience store lobbyist stated: “To have gamers buy their favorite games from a GameStop mini while picking up their favorite snacks makes a lot of sense. Further, this will give GameStop 24 hour access to their customer base, even if it means sharing revenue with 7-Eleven. If anything it could curve after-hour purchases of games from more traditional retailers such as Walmart and Target.”
Over the decades 7-Eleven has partnered with a variety of video game companies on different promotions and the 50,000+ locations have never seemed to shy away from trying new things even if their staple products remain Slurpees, Big Gulps, Coffee, and Citgo Gasoline.
