Caitlyn, the personality formerly known as Bruce Jenner, may not be able to compete in the Nintendo World Championship 2015. The controversy steams from the misleading gender that was submitted on the application form. Nintendo representatives state this is a violation of contest rules.
“Our rules for promotions and contest have always been clear cut on the topic. Gender must be correctly listed. This allows us to make the best accommodations for our contestants,” Yamato Satou at Nintendo’s marketing released in a statement. This could mean Caitlyn is barred from participation in the event at E3, despite being one of the top qualifiers at Best Buy in San Francisco, CA this past weekend.
Flex Bergner, a California defense attorney best known in his defense of the Proposition 8 law before the US Supreme Court last year has taken the case. “This is a mistake anyone could have made,” He told media outlets shortly after the story broke. “It’s a confusing time but hopefully we can have it all sorted out by E3.”
The one-time Olympic gold medalist described the experience as, “Disappointing.” But states that he is happy for the support he is receiving and looks forward to completing competitively once more.
