Recently Konami has been acting weird. Very weird. First it was the treatment of Kojima – the brains behind the mega franchise Metal Gear. Now the once mega publisher of some of the most popular video games in history is believed to be leaving the video game industry all together.
It’s suspected that Konami isn’t leaving gaming all together however, but that they are shifting their focus on casino operations. Construction continues on a new Konami building in Las Vegas (adjacent to their original one on the corner of Sunset and Bermuda behind McCarran Airport.)
Shifting to casino operations is nothing new, SEGA has been manufacturing slot machines for decades, and recently Atari announced that they too are moving in to casino operations. Both of these companies have ported their video game IPs (Crazy Taxi and Centipede) to slot machines with many more expected to be seen very soon.
Does this mean we’ll see a Castlevania or Contra slot machine soon? We can all hope and pray.
