E3 begins next week and the rumors are swirling that a PlayStation 3 price drop is right around the corner.
Sony has made a huge push to get their PlayStation 4 consoles in the homes of all Americans, and first party support for the aging PS3 game console is pretty much dead. Historically these are the signs of a price drop. But not so fast said one Gamestop manager who asked to remain anonymous:
“Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo, never allude to a price drop until the day it occurs. It stifles business to promise one in the future. It actually kills all new console sales.”
But plenty of other sources disagree. Gary Louxer the owner of “Video Games Cheap” a used game store in Prairie Hills New Hampshire called us on the Gaming Free Press hotline and left the following:
“Its for real man, the PS3 is going to retail for $89. We’ve already stopped buying consoles and accepting trade ins. We’re also offering incredible deals on used PS3s for $65 and we’ve already marked down new consoles to $89. If we don’t do this were going to get burned next week.”
Gary estimates he has about 30 new consoles in stock, and they can be purchased over the phone or through their website.
Update: Gary Louxer has sold out of the $89 PS3s. Express your outrage in the comments below.
Whether true or not an official price of $89 could breath new life into the PS3 which already boasts a massive game library and can still be used with Netflix, Hulu and a variety of other services. The Gaming Free Press will be at E3 next week to update you on this story and many more to come.
